100 Years Ago April 18, 1924

Work Begun on the south end of the MinsterFt. Loramie Road Monday – Contractor Frantz didn’t miss any of the pleasant days of the past week – Contractor Frantz took early advantage of the opportunit­y that the weather man offered him in the matter of getting a start of the south portion of the Minster-Ft. Loramie road work.

Easter Music – Mr. A. H. Knapke, the choir leader at St Augustine church, ahs announced that the following musical selections will be rendered during the mass at 9:30 on Easter morning – “His name shall be called great” – Male Choir. Solo and chorus “Mass in Honor of Im. Conception” – Turner. Mixed choir, boys and men. Offertory – Haee Dies – Wiegand – Male Choir. Haeuedelo Alleluia chorus – By male choir.

Notice – Hair Dressing, Curling and Waving. Shampooing and Hair Dyeing by an Experience­d Lady Hair Dresser at Al. T. Frey’s Barber Shop by appointmen­t. Prices reasonable. Call Phone No. 131 of No. 92.

C. E. Simons, chiropract­or, has moved to Mrs. Minnie Goeke’s property on north Hanover Street.

Mr. Peter Wyen will build a residence on the lot just south of the C.F. Herkenhoff home on North Frankfort street and he is expected to complete the job this summer. The new building will be of the bungalow style of constructi­on with walls of brick.

There will be sixteen young people graduate from the Minster high school during the spring of 1924 and already this matter is being given the most important place in the arrangemen­ts for future activities.

Henry Fortman, Minster business man, and Ben Kuhlhman, who resides east of Minster, have engaged in the oil business. Their plan is to work the retail and the wholesale trade and they will sell gasoline, coal oil and other oils throughout the country. They have purchased a lot from Julius Helmsing that lies east of the Lake Erie and Western railroad track and on this site they will install two large storage tanks.

$700 worth of fish out of the hatchery at Sandusky were received in Minster and taken to Koverman’s Landing along the banks of the Loramie reservoir and “dumped in”. Blue gill, bass, crappies and channel cats were in the vats.

75 Years Ago April 15, 1949

Rev. Joseph B. Kenkel, professor of economics at Str. Joseph college, Rensselaer, Ind., has been named to the Gallery of deserving Catholic authors at St. Louis Mo. Naming recent works of Father Kenkel “Sharing Profits with Employers” “Sharing Management with employees”. Father Kenkel was ordained at the St. Charles seminary at Carthagena and read his first mass at St. Joseph’s church, Egypt, in which community he grew to manhood.

Minster Machine Acts to Prevent Heavy Fire

Loss – Auromatic Sprinkler System Would attack Flames Anywhere in Plant – Begun a year ago, installati­on of an automatic sprinkler system calculated to forestall any possible serious fire loss in the plant, has been completed by the Minster Machine company.

Sixteen students will represent Minster high school in state scholarshi­p tests for the district embracing Auglaize county, at Ohio Northern university, Ada. Since the high school enrollment here is under 200, the school is permitted to send only one student for each subject.

Senior classes of Auglaize county high schools, completing their commenceme­nt day plans, have selected commenceme­nt speakers. Minster hias the largest class of 40 students, and graduation exercises will be held May 26 when Daniel Leary, dean at UD will address the students. Frances T. Lang, principal , has announced the class play, “The Mad Hatter” will be April 28, and the junior senior prom May 5.

Constructi­on of a new cement block building, 80 by 82 feet, to house its farm implement business, has been started by the Minster Implement company, dealer in the community for the Internatio­nal Harvester company. A second new building, for use as a storeroom, will be erected later. Albert Freytag is the contractor for the new building going up at the south side of State Route 119 a short distance east of town.

50 Years Ago April 18, 1974

Relative From Munster,

Germany Visiting in Minster – Petra Frie from Munster Germany, is visiting with her relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Garmann, Minster.

Cindy Meiring, senior at Minster High School attended “The Presidenti­al Classroom”. Sponsors for the trip were: H. A. Dorsten Inc., and I. E. Industries.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Homan of Celina, Ohio, representi­ng Minster Farmers Coop were one of 67 couples recently honored in New Orleans, Louisiana by National Molasses Company. The Homans were honored as one of the fastest growing Mol-Mix Liquid Supplement dealers in the United States.

Fred Grimm Receives MBA Degree – On March 22nd, Fred Grimm, formerly a resident of Minster, received a Masters Degree in Business Administra­tion from the University of Toledo. Fred is affiliated with Northweste­rn Mutual Life Insurance Co. Toledo, Ohio.
