Minster-Bath The Minster Wildcats defeated the Bath Wildcats 9-3 in their first game.

About the game, Minster Coach Robb Hemmelgarn stated, “We jumped ahead 8-0 and then we didn’t have a good inning on defense. We need to shake that off for this game because we’re going to face the same kind of pitching, the same spirited dugout. We need to flush it and get back to work in a little bit.”

Kyree Stumbaugh pitched for Bath while Brooklyn Osterloh started for Minster.

In the first inning, Mara Davis and Olivia Foster singled to put runners on first and second. A wild pitch moved the runners to second and third. After an out, Tea Sibert walked, but the next batter struck out and Oldiges picked the runner off first on a strong throw to get Minster out of the inning with no damage. In the bottom of the first, Reece Albers walked and after stealing second and third, came home on a Rylin Trego single. Addi Inskeep homered to make the score 3-0. Mikaela Hoskins went back to back to make the score 4-0 at the end of the inning.

About the first inning, Hemmelgarn stated, “Bases loaded to start. That set the tone. We hit cruise control in the middle and the rain happens and it is what it is. It’s a win and we’ll take it.”

In the second inning, Bath went down 1-2-3. Minster wanted to play add-on and they did. Alayna Prenger led off the inning with a walk. Reece Albers singled to set the stage for Addi Inskeep Inskeep lifted a high pop fly where no one made the play and this scored two more to make the score 6-0.

There was no scoring in the third inning and the game moved to the fourth. Bath went quietly as they went 1-2-3. In the seventh inning, Minster worked around a one-out single to get the victory 9-3 with a great catch by Alayna Prenger to end the game.

About the catch, Hemmelgarn stated, “That was nice, gold glove play there. Bath’s outfield made catches. We made a lot of gold glove plays on defense. I thought that we fielded a lot of hard-hit balls. Defense was good and we’ll get things rolling this game.”

About the game, Hemmelgarn stated, “That one leaves a good taste in our mouth. That’s a good team there. We set the tone early. We put crooked numbers up every inning. Mikaela was perfect through five and a third, wearing out just a little. The changeup got off. They timed her up, but she responded and got the last out of the game for us.”
