PROSPECT - The sweet kind caring and ever loving Kusum Nahata, 74, ascended to the stars Tuesday September 26. There she is reunited with her Father, Mother, Elder Sister, and her Nahata family.

Kusum was born August 8, 1949, in Calcutta, India. She married May 1971 and 1972 moved to the United States. 1978 she moved to Louisville, with 2 children (Ritu and Rohit) as her husband, Dr. Babu Nahata Ph.D, accepted a professori­al position in the economics department at the University of Louisville.

She raised her kids with boundless devotion and reared above and beyond with unconditio­nal love and support to provide them wonderful opportunit­ies in life. Being a member of the very large and close Nahata and Lodha families of India she made sincere effort to cultivate and grow meaningful and caring relationsh­ips among each one of them. She loved them all tremendous­ly with affection. She was a nexus of joy and social gatherings. With her warmth and loving personalit­y she enjoyed countless deep and loving friendship­s here in Louisville. Her loyalty was royalty. So many memories of her shall live forever.

Kusum was a tremendous cook! In addition to a lifetime of feeding her family immeasurab­le friends had the pleasure of eating her fresh and handmade food at countless dinner parties over the years she hosted in her house. She loved children. She loved yoga. And she loved her daily morning walks followed by meditation and prayer. She loved movies and jewelry. Yet regardless of the diamonds she wore her heart and smile is where she truly sparkled.

Kusum toured 6 continents as a world traveler. In recent years she reveled in being the most wonderful grand-mother to 3 (Mia, Guthrie, Sawyer). She was always ready to hand feed her kids and grandkids regardless of how old they were. She truly felt her life a very fortunate one. And she blessed those who knew her. Keeping her spirit alive shall now be the privilege of her husband, Dr. Babu Nahata, Ph.D, her daughter Ritu Nahata Rowland, her son-in-law, Richard Rowland III, her son, Rohit Nahata, her 3 grandchild­ren Mia, Guthrie, Sawyer, the entire Nahata and Lodha family, her extended family, and her loving friends.
