Edward L. Osborne

-

LOUISVILLE - Edward L. Osborne, 92, of Louisville, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023. He was born June 6, 1931; one of seven children of the late Hallie Mae Pendleton Osborne and Francis

Deward Osborne. His two sisters, Dora Ray and

Corinne Bach; and two brothers, Bernard Osborne and Fr. Stanley Osborne preceded him in death.

Edward attended St. George Parrish School and graduated from Flaget High School in 1949. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he returned to Louisville and worked at Reynold’s

Metals for 9 years, attending the University of

Louisville while working full time. It was during this time that he met his wife, Sue Taylor Good Osborne on a blind, double-date with their good friends, Betty Jo and Paul Felker. Edward & Sue celebrated 66 years of marriage this July!

When Edward graduated from U of L, he began his 30-year career with Ford Motor Company, moving from the auto plant to the Kentucky Truck Plant, even before it was officially open. He was involved in the design and engineering of many different lines of heavy trucks produced there, with his eye for detail, and his exacting nature serving him and FMC well!

Edward enjoyed travel, many outdoor pursuits, and was very physically active, walking 5 miles a day prior to his stroke at age 89. He led our family on many vacations thru out the USA, especially enjoying visits to our National Parks. Edward and Sue also took many trips abroad to destinations thru-out Europe, Asia, and Central America. He was a life-long aviation enthusiast. After retiring, Edward bought an airplane, began taking flying lessons, and at age 62 he obtained his Private Pilot’s License!

Edward was a founding member of Epiphany Catholic Church and served in many roles thru-out his 50+ years of membership, including as a Eucharistic Minister, President of the Parrish Council, and on various Building Committees. Edward and Sue have lived in Bellemeade for 57 years. Ed was serving as a City Commissioner, and was on the ballot for election to that office at the time of his stroke in November of 2020.

Maybe the most important thing that can be said of Edward is that he was a kind, decent, and fun-loving person, who had an optimistic outlook on life and was well-loved by many. He was tireless, always thinking, and ready to extend his expertise and effort to anyone at a moment’s notice. In short, he was a person others could always count on.

Edward is survived by his wife, Sue; two daughters, Susan Rogers (Glen) of Wawautosa, WI and Kathy Osborne (Carol) of Louisville; four grandchildren, Mariah and Leah Rogers; Forest and Clay Clevenger; two brothers, John Osborne (Barbara), Richard Osborne (Betty d.) and his beloved grand dog Piper. Edward is also survived by many wonderful friends, neighbors, and caregivers who helped him (and Sue) so much thru-out the past three years; we can never thank them enough for their time, dedication and kindness.

Edward’s Celebration of Life will be on Monday, October 9, 2023; at Epiphany Catholic Church, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road, Louisville. Visitation 9-11am, Funeral Mass 11am.
