LOUISVILLE - Derl Philip (Phil) Reed, Jr, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 18th at his home in Louisville at the age of 68. He was born on June 23, 1955 to his parents, the late Derl Reed, Sr, and Jane Reker Reed. Phil proudly attended St. Xavier High School and the University of Louisville, and supported their athletic programs throughout his life. After graduation, Phil left to join Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant. He quickly advanced in the airline industry, spending most of his career with Delta Airlines. Phil had great affection for orphans and the unhoused, and served on the board of directors for the Salvation Army in Memphis, Tennessee for many years, during which time he was proud to see the opening of the Kroc Center, a large recreation­al complex for underprivi­leged youth. Throughout his life, Phil was an avid traveler, and loved experienci­ng different cultures and countries. In his retirement, Phil was an active member of the Bonnycastl­e Club, and spent many evenings with his beloved friends there.

Phil is preceded in death by Derl Philip Reed, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Jane Allen, his son, Derl Philip Reed III, Philip’s mother, Mary Anne Reed, his brother Tim Reed, and his sister, Cheri Abbott.

Visitation will take place on Monday, October 23, from 3 - 8pm at Highlands Funeral Home at 3331 Taylorsvil­le Road, Louisville, KY, 40205. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, October 24th, at 10 am at St. James Catholic Church at 1826 Edenside Avenue, Louisville, KY, with burial and a reception to follow.
