Former Central star Wales to coach RBs at Missouri State

Former Central star running back Anthony Wales is headed to Missouri State as its running backs coach, per his X account, formerly known as Twitter.

Wales previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, Western Kentucky, and recently worked on the 2023 Louisville football staff as a running backs coach and grad assistant.

He left Central ranked third in KHSAA history with 8,213 yards and scored 114 touchdowns. In his college career, Wales ran for 1,721 yards and scored 16 rushing touchdowns. He caught 43 passes for 350 yards and two TDs.

Around the city: Racing Louisville FC adds South African star Linda Motlhalo

Racing Louisville added Linda Motlhalo, a South Africa national team star, via transfer. The transfer fee Racing signed was not disclosed.

The transfer brings Motlhalo, 25, back to the NWSL pitch for the first time since 2018, when she played with the Houston Dash. Last season, she played for Scottish league champion Glasgow City FC, where she started its four 2023 UEFA Women's Champions League matches.

High school recruiting: Kentucky Country Day senior Cam Edwards commits to Western Illinois

Kentucky Country Day senior Cam Edwards has committed to play football for Western Illinois, a Division I FCS school that plays in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Last season, Edwards led the Bearcats with 49 catches, 855 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns for a team that lost, 42-6, to Raceland in the KHSAA Class A state semifinals.

Performanc­e of the week: Sacred Heart basketball star ZaKiyah Johnson scores 26 on MLK Day

Sacred Heart junior ZaKiyah Johnson and the Valkyries traveled to the Washington, D.C., area to play in the St. James MLK Classic. On Jan. 15, Johnson scored a team-high 26 points (7-of-17 shooting from the field, 2 of 8 from 3-point range) in a 53-48 loss to Sidwell Friends.

Play of the week: Former Louisville basketball star Donovan Mitchell reaches 11,000 career points in NBA

Cleveland's Donovan Mitchell, who played for Louisville for two seasons (2015-2016 and 2016-2017), threw down a two-handed dunk in transition to help him reach 11,000 career NBA points in a 135-95 win over the Milwaukee Bucks last Wednesday.

Mitchell finished with a game-high 31 points, five rebounds and seven assists. He is averaging 28.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game this season.
