How to enter 2024’s Color the Jockey Silks contest

Kentucky Derby 2024 is almost here, and to celebrate, The Courier Journal is launching its sixth annual Color the Jockey Silks competitio­n, sponsored by COIT Cleaning & Restoratio­n.

That means it’s time to haul out the paint, crayons, pens, beads, feathers, glitter, sequins and glue to put your mark on the most creative Kentucky Derby jockey silks.

Four artists will win $100 each from The Courier Journal, and many more will see their creations featured on courierjou­rnal.com and in The Courier Journal on May 2.

Ready to enter? Here’s what you need to know:

How to submit your

Color the Jockey Silks drawing

After you’ve decked out your jockey silk, snap a photo and email it to the Courier Journal by 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 21. (Sorry — the newsroom is not accepting mail-in entries this year.)

Email your drawing to jockeysilk­scontest@gmail.com.

What to include in your Color the Jockey Silks submission

Make sure to include the artist’s name and age, phone number, email address and physical address along with your email submission.

What are the Color the Jockey Silks age categories?

A group of judges from the Courier Journal newsroom will pick a top drawing in four categories:

Ages 12 and under.

Best Overall.

What’s the prize in the Color the Jockey Silks contest?

Winners in each of the four categories will receive $100 from The Courier Journal and their submission­s will be published online and in print on May 2.

What are some Color the Jockey Silks

2024 key dates?

April 21: All entries are due by 5 p.m. April 29-May 1: We’ll post a gallery of finalists on our website and share some of our favorite entries on The Courier Journal Facebook page this week.

May 2: Winners will be announced online and in print.
