St. Xavier boys, Manual girls win Class 3A, Region Three

The St. Xavier boys and Manual girls track and field teams won titles Monday at the Class 3A, Region Three Track and Field Championships at St. X.

St. X took the boys crown with 187 points and was followed by Male (119) and Manual (72). Manual won the girls title with 202 points and was followed by Male (137) and Bullitt East (91).

St. X junior James Burnett dominated the boys meet, winning the 100-, 200and 400-meter dashes and the long jump. The Tigers also got victories from seniors Tristan Hindorff (3,200), John Phelps (pole vault), Ashton Jones (shot put) and Tyler Neal (discus). St. X also won the 400 and 800 relays.

Male junior Caden Cull swept the 800 and 1,600, and Central senior Adrian Johnson won both hurdles events (110 and 300).

Manual’s girls got multiple victories from seniors Flora Biro (1,600, 3,200) and Zoe Shahid-Scott (shot put, discus). Other winners for the Crimsons were junior Alexandra Allen (400), senior Morgan Lincoln (pole vault) and the 1,600 and 3,200 relays. Male freshman Grace Bethel won the 100 and 200 and also helped the Bulldogs win the 400 and 800 relays. Central senior Destiny Jones swept the 100 and 300 hurdles.

The top two finishers in each event earned automatic spots in the Class 3A State Track and Field Championships set for June 1 at the University of Kentucky. Others may earn spots based on their performances versus others from around the state.
