Casting of Lots held at Elk County Courthouse Annex on Friday

- By Brian Stockman Staff Writer

RIDGWAY — In elections where two or more candidates from the same party are running, each candidate running for office has the option of showing up on Friday to "roll the dice" in normal years. Due to COVID-19, Elk County Chief Clerk Seth Higgins was the designated "caster" at the event on Friday. Higgins shook the milk bottle containing the corresponding amount of numbered dice as candidates in the race. The candidate who rolled the lowest number gains the first spot on the ballot, with and proceeding in order from there. No rolls were performed for races that had no declared candidates or in cases where the candidate was running unopposed.

With over 100 offices up for election but only 50 candidates in the various contests, the procedure took under an hour. The following opposed candidates and the offices they are running for are listed below in the order they will be presented on the primary ballot on May 18.
