Jane Kaul Wilson

-

Jane Kaul Wilson departed this world and was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on January 27, 2021 in Sandestin FL, after a brief but tough battle with COVID-19. A private service for immediate family was held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Destin Florida. A weekly bible study member for decades, Janie loved the camaraderie of various bible study groups. Her faith sustained her throughout her entire life.

Janie was the Beloved wife of 25 years to Walter Winfield Wilson. She and Walter were best friends, soul mates and constant companions. In fact, their first night spent away from each other was Janie's time in Covid Care Unit before her death. The two enjoyed homes in Birmingham, AL., Highlands, NC and Sandestin, FL. where they relished in entertaining friends and family to all sorts of occasions. Janie and Walter travelled the world together on fabulous trips to interesting destinations creating a lifetime of memories. As both were true SEC football fans albeit of different teams, they loved cheering on football Saturdays with homemade wings and potato salad. The ringtone on Janie's phone was a very LOUD "Hey Alabama" fight song which must have made Walter wince a bit as he is a lifelong LSU grad and fan (Roll Tide).

Janie was born April 25, 1940 in St. Mary's, Pennsylvania. She attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart High School, Mary Burnham, and studied at Penn State and The University of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew Kaul III and Libby Morrow Kaul and her brother Andrew Kaul IV.

Janie was the mother of Hugh Alden Morrow (Jennifer), Libby Kaul Morrow and Anne Morrow Connors. She was stepmother to Samantha Wilson Weinmeister (Karl), Carleigh Wilson Baudoin (Ryan) and Harry Wilson (Jenny). She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelsey Ostenson, Taran Ostenson, Cole Ostenson, Emma Diaz, Asher Diaz, Thomas Diaz, June Baudoin, Laura Wilson, and Sam Wilson.

After Moving to Birmingham in 1960, Janie was thrown into the political arena via marriage to the late Hugh Morrow III. At this time, she began a life-long career of volunteerism and fundraising for the civic enrichment of her new hometown. This Civic / Board Member involvement provided purpose, focus and joy for her entire adult life. Some of the organizations benefiting from her persistent work are the Birmingham Museum of Art, The Birmingham Symphony, Red Cross of Alabama, UAB Comprehensive (now O’Neil) Cancer Center, Birmingham Children’s Theatre and many other groups which were all fortunate enough to have Janie working on their behalf. Janie was considered a premier fundraiser and her success may have been due to what some called "the look" or her infectious laugh. She took pride in participating as one of the first members of the Junior League Choral group (1960) and the Time Step Studio Adult Tap Dancers (1980) which she participated in for many years.

We appreciate the many well wishes received regarding Janie's truly unbelievable passing (she was winning at pickleball 2 hours a day up to illness). She had many hobbies in addition to her love of sports such as being an avid pickleball player, croquet player, golfer and as an extremely competitive tennis player. Her love of flowers and flower arranging was a particularly favorite hobby. Her favorite walk while in Birmingham was wandering the paths in the Botanical Gardens.

Janie served on the Board of Directors for the Highlands Cashiers Health Foundation for 4 years. Upon the end of her term, she was asked to stay on as a consultant. While on the Board she helped organize and put on numerous Fundraising Events. At the time of her death Janie was on the Board of Directors of the Laurelwood HOA and had just completed 3 years of service on the Highlands Falls HOA.

Some words used to describe Janie by friends and family are tenacious, committed, competitive and a force of nature. When she spoke, people listened. Her glass was always more than half full and refillable! Janie was a woman of vision, strong character, intelligence, kindness and was known to have a keen wit. These are all descriptions true to Janie’s spirit and are her legacies.

For her family, Janie was our true constant.
