State police to alter fitness standards that kept out women Nurses Study Club to meet April 20 SMPD issues March activity report

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvan­ia State Police will pay more than $2 million into a compensati­on fund and are changing physical fitness standards to settle a lawsuit over how the agency's trooper-hiring practices ruled out otherwise qualified women.

The U.S. Justice Department announced the proposed settlement Tuesday of litigation that was launched seven years ago, leaving a federal judge in Harrisburg to give her final approval.

The police agency also has agreed to make it a priority to hire as many as 65 women who were affected by the prior fitness standards for entry-level trooper posi

The St. Marys Nurses’ Study Club will meet Tuesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. at the Youth Center, upstairs on Erie Avenue. Handicap access is available. Social distancing and masks are still required.

Dr. Donald Rudick of St. Marys will speak on the therapeuti­c effects of CBD (cannabinoi­d) which can help anxiety and depression, pain relief and provide other benefits such as symptoms related to cancer and side effects related to cancer treatments, like nausea, vomiting and pain.

CBD is not psychoacti­ve and will not get you stoned. However, there are still a lot of unknowns.

Total calls for service - 495; criminal complaints received - 54; criminal complaints cleared by arrest or investigat­ion - 39; criminal complaints deemed unfounded after investigat­ion - 3; criminal arrests - 27; juvenile arrests - 7; traffic complaints received - 154; traffic citations issued - 19; DUI arrests - 2; traffic accidents investigat­ed - 14; number of personal injuries as a result of traffic accidents - 1; number of other incidents reported/ investigat­ed - 287; patrol mileage for the protection of lives and property -35; hearing at Magisteria­l District Judge - 2; assists to other law enforcemen­t agencies - 2; number of dog law complaints received - 54.
