St. Marys Sportsmen plant trees

- Staff Writer

The St. Marys Sportsmen hosted a wildlife tree/shrub planting day at their farm in Flower Valley on Saturday, April 30. The club, with a lot of help, planted over 1,200 trees/shrubs (Sawtooth Oak, Silky Dogwood, and Northern Bayberry). These trees and shrubs were then protected with covers donated by DCNR and mesh covers purchased by the Club. These covers then had a stake attached to be sure that they stayed in place.

The help from the two Brownie (Daisy) Girl Scout Troops and Boy Scout Troop 199 impressed all the adults who were there. While it was anticipated to take two days to plant these trees and shrubs, the 62+ adults and kids were able to plant and protect these plants in just over four hours. After completion of the planting, all adjourned to the garage for lunch of BBQ ham, macaroni salad, hot dogs, and cookies.

The club expresses their gratitude to all who participated because without them, they would probably still be planting these trees this week.
