Lady Dutch roll to 15-1 five-inning win over Bradford

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team recorded their third victory in as many days on Wednesday afternoon, cruising to a 15-1 five-inning victory over the Bradford Lady Owls on the road in Bradford.

A trio of pitchers spent time in the circle for St. Marys in the contest. Kara Hanslovan worked one inning, giving up one hit and walking two. Jianna Gerg took over for 2.1 innings, walking four, and Kendall Young worked the final 1.2 innings, striking out four.

Kalie Dixon went the distance for Bradford, giving up 11 hits, walking four, and striking out three.

Gianna Surra had a triple in the game for St. Marys, and Olivia Eckels hit a pair of doubles.

St. Marys scored their first five runs in the top of the opening inning. Rosa DePrater drew a leadoff walk and then scored on Eckels’ first double of the game. Eckels then scored on a single by Young. Hanslovan reached base on an error, with Kalani Clinger entering the game as a courtesy runner. Both Young and Clinger scored on a triple by Surra. Allison Heindl entered as a courtesy runner for Surra, and she scored the final run of the inning for the Lady Dutch on a groundout by Gerg.

Bradford left the bases loaded in the home half of the inning.

St. Marys scored three more runs in the top of the second to go up 8-0.

Danielle Rolley drew a leadoff walk and then scored on a single by DePrater. A one-out single by Young moved DePrater to third. DePrater scored on a groundout by Hanslovan, and then Young scored on a single by Surra.

Bradford scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the inning, making the score 8-1.

Gerg drew a leadoff walk in the top of the third and then scored on an error following a bunt single by Alexis Wendel. Wendel scored on a one-out single by DePrater. A double by Eckels scored DePrater, and then Eckels scored on a groundout by Young, making the score 12-1 in St. Marys’ favor.

Batters for Bradford went down in order in the bottom of the inning.

The Lady Dutch scored their final three runs in the top of the fourth.

Surra led off by reaching base on an error and then scored as Lauren Mosier reached base on an error. Heindl drew a walk to join Mosier on base. With Clinger at bat, Mosier scored on a wild pitch, and then Heindl scored on a groundout by Clinger to make the score 15-1.

Bradford left a runner stranded in the bottom of the inning.

St. Marys stranded a pair of runners in the top of the fifth as Eckels and Young hit back-to-back singles to open the inning, with the next three batters going down in order. Batters for Bradford went down in order in the bottom of the inning to end the game with St. Marys bringing home the 15-1 fiveinning win.

The Lady Dutch are scheduled to be back in action on Friday for a Senior Night matchup against Warren. First pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.
