Lady Crusader softball team defeats Johnsonburg 4-1
The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team faced off against the Johnsonburg Ramettes on Wednesday afternoon at Benzinger Park, winning by a score of 4-1.
Emily Mourer went the distance for ECC, giving up seven hits, walking four, and striking out six. Mourer also led the Lady Crusaders on offense with three doubles.
Julie Peterson was in the circle for Johnsonburg, giving up six hits, walking two, and striking out 10.
Natalie Dunworth had the lone extra-base hit for the Ramettes with a triple.
Johnsonburg took an early lead in the game as Dunworth led off with her triple and then scored on a groundout by Jula Jones to put the Ramettes on the board 1-0.
ECC answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the inning.
Lucy Klawuhn got things rolling with a single, and then Gabby Weisner drew a walk to join her on base. Following a strikeout, both Klawuhn and Weisner scored on Mourer’s first double of the game, making the score 2-1.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the third when ECC added another run to their lead.
Weisner drew a oneout walk and then scored on a two-out double by Mourer to make the score 3-1.
ECC scored the game’s final run in the bottom of the fifth.
It was once again Weisner who got on base with one out, this time after singling on a fly ball to right field. Mourer’s third double of the game scored Weisner to give the Lady Crusaders a 4-1 lead.
Both teams were able to get their share of base runners in the contest, but neither scored again the rest of the way, with the Lady Crusaders winning 4-1.
ECC is scheduled to be back in action on Monday when they host Smethport in a 4:15 p.m. game.
