The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team was back in action on the road on Tuesday, bringing home a 13-0 five-inning shutout victory over the Brookville Lady Raiders.

Kendall Young tossed a one-hitter for St. Marys while also striking out 10.

Natasha Rush gave up 16 hits for Brookville while walking one and striking out two.

Rosa DePrater had a triple and a double for the Lady Dutch, Lindsey Reiter had a triple, Olivia Eckels had a pair of doubles, and Gianna Surra also had a double.

The Lady Dutch wasted little time putting their first two runs on the board in the top of the opening inning. DePrater led off with a single and then advanced to third on a double by Eckels. A sacrifice flyout by Young scored DePrater for St. Marys’ first run of the day, and then Eckels scored on a two-out single by Surra to make the score 2-0.

The second inning was the only one in which St. Marys did not score. After hitting a one-out single, Jianna Gerg was left stranded on third.

The Lady Dutch added three runs to their lead in the top of the third to make the score 5-0.

Eckels led off the inning with a single, and then Kara Hanslovan hit a one-out single to join her on base. Both scored on a double by Surra. Allison Heindl entered the game as a courtesy runner for Surra and scored as Lindsey Reiter reached on an error.

With one out in the top of the fourth, DePrater hit a triple and then scored on another double by Eckels to make the score 6-0. Eckels went on to score on a two-out single by Hanslovan. Surra drew a walk and Kalani was hit by a pitch, loading the bases, but a lineout left all three stranded.

Up until the bottom of the fourth, batters for Brookville went down in order in every inning. The

Lady Raiders got their only base runner of the game, and their lone hit, as Alyssa Tolleni led off the home half of the inning with a single. However, a strikeout, a popup, and another strikeout left her stranded.

The Lady Dutch scored their final six runs in the top of the fifth.

Sophia Benjamin led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an error. Alexis Wendel hit into a fielder’s choice, which erased Benjamin at third for the first out. A double by DePrater moved Wendel to third, and then both Wendel and DePrater scored on passed balls with Eckels at bat.

Eckels reached base on a throwing error and was able to also advance to second on the play. A single by Young moved Eckels to third, and then Eckels scored on a single by Hanslovan. Following a popup for the second out, a triple by Reiter scored both Young and Hanslovan. Reiter scored on a single by Lauren Mosier, but a strikeout left Mosier stranded with St. Marys leading 13-0.

Batters for Brookville once again went down in order in the home half of the inning, with the Lady Dutch leaving with the 13-0 five-inning victory.

The Lady Dutch are scheduled to be back in action on the road today when they travel to Clarion-Limestone for a 5:45 p.m. game.
