Lady Crusader softball team falls to visiting Otto-Eldred

- By Becky Polaski Staff Writer

The majority of the scoring in Wednesday afternoon’s matchup between the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders and Otto-Eldred Lady Terrors took place in the final three innings. Unfortunately for ECC, it was Otto that put most of the runs on the board to take home a 12-4 victory.

ECC’s Emily Mourer and Otto’s Brianna Heller each went the distance in the circle for their respective squads. Mourier gave up 14 hits, walked two, and struck out six in her seven innings of work, while Heller gave up 12 hits, walked one, and struck out seven.

Lucy Klawuhn hit a home run for the Lady Crusaders, while Tessa Fledderman, Lydia Anderson,

and Mourer each had a double.

Jessi Hall had a pair of doubles for Otto and Kate Rhinehart had one.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when OttoEldred’s Katie Sheeler hit a two-out single and then scored on a double by Hall to put the Lady Terrors on the board leading 1-0.

The score remained that way until the top of the fifth when Otto added five more runs to their lead to go up 6-0. Another three runs in the top of the sixth extended Otto’s lead to 9-0.

ECC finally got on the board with their first two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Three straight singles by Anderson, Mourer, and Sydney Alexander loaded the bases, with Reagan Bauer entering the game to run for Mourer. Both Anderson and Bauer went on to score on a two-out double by Fledderman to cut Otto-Eldred’s lead to 9-2.

The Lady Terrors responded with three runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 12-2.

ECC was able to put another pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the final inning, but it was not enough to stop Otto-Eldred from taking home the victory.

Klawuhn led off the home half of the seventh with a solo home run to make the score 12-3. Gabby Weisner followed that up with a single and scored on a double by Anderson, making the score 12-4. Anderson was out attempting to stretch the double into a triple. Alexander also reached base in the inning on a two-out single, but a groundout left her stranded.

The Lady Crusaders will be back in action on Friday when they travel across town to St. Marys Area to face the Lady Dutch in a 4:15 p.m. game.
