Lady Dutch escape with 11-7 win over Clarion-Limestone

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch jumped out to a 10-0 lead against Clarion-Limestone in the first two innings of Wednesday afternoon’s game but then watched as C-L put seven runs on the board in the home half of the second. The Lady Dutch would score one more run in the top of the third and then hold Clarion-Limestone scoreless the rest of the way to bring home an 11-7 victory.

Lindsey Reiter started in the circle for St. Marys, working 1.2 innings and giving up three hits and walking three. Kendall Young took over for the remaining 5.1 innings, striking out 14 while giving up one hit and one walk.

C-L also used a pair of pitchers in the contest. Jenna Dunn worked the first two innings, giving up five hits, walking four, and striking out four. Regan Husted took over for the remaining five innings, giving up four hits and striking out two.

The Lady Dutch had a pair of extrabase hits in the contest, with Jianna Gerg hitting a triple and Kara Hanslovan hitting a double.

A leadoff walk issued to Rosa DePrater followed by backto-back errors that allowed Olivia Eckels and Young to reach base loaded the bases with no outs for the Lady Dutch in the top of the opening inning. A double by Hanslovan scored both DePrater and Eckels, putting the Lady Dutch on the board leading 2-0.

Surra reached base on an error, with Young scoring on the play and Hanslovan advancing to third. Sophia Benjamin entered the game to run for Surra.

A single by Reiter scored Hanslovan, making the score 4-0. Benjamin would also go on to score to make St. Marys’ lead 5-0. Lauren Mosier drew a walk to join Reiter on base.

Following a strikeout, Reiter scored on a pickoff attempt on Mosier at first, extending St. Marys’ lead to 6-0. Another pair of strikeouts left Mosier stranded.

Batters for ClarionLim­estone went down in order in the bottom of the inning.

Eckels reached base on an error to start off the top of the second, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored on a single by Young. Following a groundout, Young scored on a single by Surra, with Surra advancing to third on an error on the play. Benjamin once again entered the game to run for Surra, and she scored on a passed ball with Reiter at bat.

Reiter ended up drawing a walk, as did Mosier. A single by Gerg loaded the bases with one out, and then Reiter scored on a passed ball with Danielle Rolley at bat to make the score 10-0.

Clarion-Limestone scored all seven of their runs in the home half of the inning, trimming St. Marys’ lead to 10-7.

The Lady Dutch scored their final run in the top of the third as Hanslovan hit a two-out single and then scored on a single by Surra, making the score 11-7.

Batters for ClarionLim­estone went down in order in every inning the rest of the way.

St. Marys stranded runners in the fourth and fifth innings. Gerg hit a one-out triple in the top of the fourth, and then Young hit a one-out single in the top of the fifth.

St. Marys will be back in action today on the road against Punxsutawn­ey in a 4 p.m. game.
