SMA’s Adyson Azzato claims Bronze Division state titles

The scores for the top spot in bars, floor, and all around were extremely close in the Bronze Division at the Pa. Classic Gymnastic State Championsh­ips over the weekend. Only .025 separated the top two finishers on bars, .150 on floor, and .050 in the all around. It was St. Marys Area’s Adyson Azzato who claimed the top spot in all three events to bring home a trio of state titles.

In addition to her first place finishes on bars, floor, and in the all around, Azzato was seventh on vault and 12th on beam.

The Bronze Division vault state champion was Central Valley’s Kaitlyn Sullivan with a score of 8.767. Beaver’s Emma Ferricks was second with a score of 8.667, followed by Montour’s Jillian Julka in third with a score of 8.600. Fourth went to DuBois’ Mya Jones with a score of 8.533, and rounding out the top five was Waynesboro’s Annabelle Lutz with a score of 8.400. Hopewell’s Alaina Kelly was sixth with a score of 8.333, and Azzato was seventh, also with a score of 8.333. Eighth was Canon-Mac’s Shelby Fisher with a score of 8.233, followed by South Side’s Vanessa Bonchi in ninth with a score of 8.200, and Montour’s Jenna Sobeck in 10th with a score of 8.167.

Azzato won the state title on the uneven bars with a score of 7.775. Finishing in the runner-up spot was Montour’s Zulka with a score of 7.750. Third went to Fisher from Canon-Mac with a score of 7.450. Jones was fourth for DuBois with 7.250, and rounding out the top five was Sullivan for Central Valley with a score of 7.150. Central’s Ally Weidlich finished sixth with 7.025, followed by Hopewell’s Kelly in seventh with 6.850, Ferricks in eighth for Beaver with 6.725, Bonchi in ninth for South Side with 6.575, and DuBois’ Madee Finalle in 10th with a score of 6.525.

Waynesboro’s Lutz won the state title on the balance beam with a score of 8.425. Second was Fisher for CanonMac with a score of 8.250. St. Marys Area’s Anna Lundin was third with a score of 8.150. Fourth went to Jones for DuBois with 7.950, and fifth was Bishop Canevin’s Katherine Duca with 7.850. Hopewell’s Kelly was sixth with 7.825, followed by Mt. Lebo’s Annabeth Weston in seventh with 7.800, Ridgway’s Marissa Gulnac in eighth with 7.625, Finalle in ninth for DuBois with 7.550, and Montour’s Sobeck in 10th with 7.525. Azzato finished 12th with a score of 7.275.

Azzato won the state title in floor exercises with a score of 8.500. Bonchi was second for South Side with a score of 8.350, followed by Ashlyn Cummings of Elizabeth For. in third with 8.175. Jones was fourth for DuBois with a score of 8.100, and fifth went to Kelly for Hopewell with a score of 8.075. Weidlich was sixth for Central with 7.975, followed by Duca in seventh for Bishop Canevin with 7.800, Finalle in eighth for DuBois with 7.775, Sullivan in ninth for Central Valley with 7.700, and DuBois’ Morgan Bojalad in 10th with 7.600.

The top two spots in the all-around came down to Azzato and Jones, with Azzato placing first with a score of 31.883 and Jones finishing as the runner-up for DuBois with a score of 31.833. Third went to Fisher for Canon-Mac with 31.258, fourth was Sullivan for Central Valley with 31.142, and fifth was Kelly for Hopewell with 31.083.
