After a slow start that saw both teams put seven points on the board in the first quarter, the Elk County Catholic Crusader basketball team began to pull away to lead 17-12 at halftime and 29-16 after three quarters as the Crusaders cruised to a 43-27 road win over the Johnsonburg Rams.

Jacobs did not score in the opening quarter. Instead, it was a three by Jordan Wasko, a field goal by Adam Straub, and a pair of foul shots by Colby Nussbaum that accounted for ECC’s seven points. Zimmerman made a three to lead the Rams in the frame while Kole Asti and Isaiah Jackson each made a field goal.

The Crusaders outscored the Rams 10-5 in the second quarter, with Jacobs leading the way with six points on a pair of twos and a pair of foul shots. Wil Wortman scored ECC’s remaining four points on a pair of twos. Zimmerman scored all five of the Rams’ points with a three and a two.

The Crusaders led 17-12 at the break.

A 12-4 advantage in the third quarter allowed ECC to continue to open up some breathing room. Straub led the Crusaders in the quarter with four points on a pair of twos. Lance O’Neill, Jacobs, Wortman, and Nussbaum each chipped in with a field goal. Asti made a bucket for the Rams, and Zimmerman made a pair of foul shots.

A 14-11 advantage in the final quarter sent ECC home with the 4327 win.
