Lady Crusaders bring home 42-26 win over DuBois Area

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders were back in action on the road against the DuBois Area Lady Beavers on Wednesday evening. ECC used a big 18-point game by Tori Newton to bring home a 42-26 victory.

Newton was the lone player in double figures in the contest.

The first quarter saw the Lady Crusaders post a 7-5 advantage. Newton led the way with three points on a field goal and a one-fortwo showing from the foul line, and Sydney Alexander and Emily Mourer each added a bucket. Kamryn Fontaine also made a field goal and went onefor-two from the line for the Lady Beavers, while Madison Rusnica added a bucket.

In the second quarter, ECC scored nine points while limiting DuBois to only two to take a 16-7 halftime lead.

Newton once again led ECC, this time with four points on a pair of twos. Lucy Klawuhn hit a three, and Alexander added another bucket. DuBois’ lone points of the frame came on a pair of foul shots by Fontaine.

The Lady Crusaders continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring DuBois 13-6 to go up 29-13.

Newton and Mourer each scored for points for ECC, Klawuhn hit another three, and Alexander made another bucket. Bree Weible got on the board with a field goal for DuBois, and Rusnica went fourfor-four from the foul line.

Both teams scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to make the final score 42-26 in ECC’s favor.

Newton led ECC with seven points on a pair of twos and a three, and Sami Straub, Payton Newton, and Mourer each made a field goal. Teegan Runyan led DuBois with five points on a three and a two, Abbie McCoy made a field goal and went one-fortwo from the foul line, Rusnica was three-for-four from the line, and Fontaine was two-fortwo from the line.

The Lady Crusaders are now off until Wednesday, Feb. 8, when they will play host to the Brookville Area Lady Raiders. The junior varsity game begins at 6 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
