Thompson participating in 4x4x48 Challenge starting tonight
For the third consecutive year, Harley Thompson of St. Marys will be participating in the Dave Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge, which challenges individuals to run four miles every four hours for 48 hours. Thompson will be beginning the challenge tonight at 7 p.m.
“It’s meant to challenge a person to leave their comfort zone, do something physically and mentally tough, and bring people together for a great cause,” Thompson said of the Challenge.
Thompson shared that he will be running various routes throughout the weekend as he takes part in the Challenge but does have two public runs planned.
“All are welcome to join me at 11 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday on the West Creek Trail in St. Marys,” Thompson said. “I encourage anyone to come out whether they run, walk, bike, do exercise at the trailhead, or just cheer me on. The goal is to get people involved.”
Last year, Thompson had friends and supporters join him for various legs of the Challenge, and he noted that that will be the case again this year as well.
“I have a few friends slated to do a few legs with, many returning from last year,” Thompson said.
This year, Thompson will be raising money for an organization called Squashbusters through his participation in the Challenge. He has set a goal of raising $7,000 for the organization.
“Squashbusters is a charity based out of the Boston and New England area and brings character, integrity, education, and a healthy lifestyle together as one to underserved youth through sport (the game of squash) and the school,” Thompson said. “These kids are helped into the education system in sixth grade and assisted all the way through college and beyond as they enter the workforce.”
Thompson described Squashbusters as “a truly remarkable charity who truly gives back.”
Thompson will also be representing the organization in the Boston Marathon.
“I am very excited to have the opportunity to compete in (the Boston Marathon) this year thanks to them,” Thompson said.
Thompson expressed his gratitude to the community for their continued support.
“None of this would be possible without everyone involved,” Thompson said.
