D9 AA Swim and Dive Championsh­ips conclude with one more title for Lady Dutch

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch claimed one more title as the District 9 AA Swim and Dive Championsh­ips came to an end on Saturday at the St. Marys Area High School natatorium, winning the girls’ 400 freestyle relay.

The second day of the District 9 AA Swim and Dive Championsh­ips got underway on Saturday morning with the diving competitio­n. Five divers competed for the girls’ title, while Clearfield junior Keegan MacDonald was the lone competitor for the boys’ title.

Clearfield sophomore Dehlia Elbe won the girls’ title with a score of 230.25. St. Marys Area took the next two spots as sophomore Lilliana McKay was second with a score of 164.10 and senior Katie Wehler was third with a score of 157.30. The remaining two spots went to Clearfield, with sophomore Katie Peacock placing fourth with a score of 151.40 and senior Sarah Cutler placing fifth with a score of 120.25.

MacDonald won the boys’ title with a score of 211.40.

Swimming resumed later Saturday afternoon with the girls’ 100 yard freestyle. While Union senior Evelyn Bliss easily placed first in the event in a time of 53.84, the battle for the next three spots was a close one. Bradford sophomore Bella Rhoades ended up placing second in a time of 56.49. St. Marys Area sophomore Gabby Pistner was third in 56.75, and fourth went to Clearfield senior Jaylin Wood in 56.99.

Also competing in the event for the Lady Dutch was sophomore Sophia Benjamin, who placed 16th in a time of 1:15.51.

Clearfield junior Nicholas Vaow won the boys’ 100 yard freestyle in a time of 48.92, and DuBois senior Jaedon Yarus was second in 51.64. The battle for third place was a close one, with DCC sophomore Andrew Reiter claiming the spot in a time of 54.69, edging Bradford freshman Sean Storer, who was fourth in 54.73.

Competing in the event for the Dutchmen was junior Dawson Krug, who finished seventh in a time of 56.65.

Eight swimmers competed in the girls’ 500 yard freestyle, with Clearfield senior Beth Struble winning the event in a time of 5:54.61. St. Marys Area junior Katie Petrosky was second in 6:04.96.

Ten swimmers competed for the boys’ 500 yard freestyle title, with first place going to Moniteau sophomore Mason Birckbichl­er in a time of 5:16.25. Clearfield freshman Landyn Rankin was second in 5:23.19.

Moniteau senior Katie Reott turned in the only time under one minute in the girls’ 100 yard backstroke, winning the event in 58.23 seconds. Bradford sophomore Bella Rhoades finished second in 1:01.22, and St. Marys Area sophomore Sarah Krise was third in 1:01.92.

Also competing in the event for the Lady Dutch was freshman Olivia Condon, who finished in 10th place in a time of 1:13.99.

Two swimmers posted times of under one minute in the boys’ 100 yard backstroke. DuBois senior Joda Fenstermac­her won the event in a time of 56.83 seconds, and Bradford junior Steven Williams was second in 59.69 seconds. St. Marys Area sophomore Jason McAnany claimed the third place spot in a time of 1:01.48.

The girls’ 100 yard breaststro­ke was won by Brockway sophomore Bailey Franci in 1:09.87. The battle for second was a close one, with Bradford sophomore Karsyn GraceyDalt­on taking the spot in 1:13.47, and Brookville junior Kerrigan Swartz finishing third in 1:13.63.

Competing in the event for St. Marys Area were senior Katie Wehler, who finished seventh in 1:24.76, and Seanna VanAlstine, who finished ninth in 1:27.76.

Brookville junior Patrick Young turned in the only time under one minute in the boys’ 100 yard breaststro­ke, winning the event in 59.18 seconds. Clearfield junior Derrick Mikesell was second in 1:05.01, and third went to DuBois Area freshman Spencer Benjamin in 1:06.26.

The competitio­n wrapped up with the girls’ and boys’ 400 yard freestyle relays.

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch team of sophomores Gabby Pistner and Sophia Condon, senior Allison Geci, and sophomore Sarah Krise won the event in a time of 3:47.64. Clearfield was second in 3:49.95, and Brookville was third in 3:58.06.

DuBois Area won the boys’ 400 yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:29.08. The St. Marys Area team of James Pistner, Dawson Krug, Jeff Schaut, and Jason McAnany was second in 3:31.80, and Brookville was third in 3:38.47.

Clearfield claimed both team titles.

The Lady Bison won the girls’ team title with 313 points. Brookville was second with 303, followed by St. Marys Area in third with 223, and

Bradford with 133.

The Bison ran away with the boys’ team title, finishing in first place with 316 points. DuBois Area was second with 221, followed by Bradford with 185, Brookville with 174, and St. Marys Area with 118. in fourth
