The Great Self-Guided Egg Hunt starts March 19

The countdown is on as the City of St. Marys Parks and Recreation Department’s Great Self-Guided Egg Hunt begins in less than two weeks.

The hunt will feature special eggs containing words that form a riddle hidden at Benzinger and Memorial Parks in the City of St. Marys. Each week from March 19 through April 8, families will be challenged to find the eggs and solve the riddle. The solution to each riddle will then be able to be entered for a chance to win a prize.

City of St. Marys Parks and Recreation Director Danielle Schneider explained that the idea for the hunt is based on an event held in DuBois over the Christmas holiday season.

“We took the basis of that and twisted it a bit,” Schneider said.

From March 19-25, a total of nine eggs will be hidden between the two parks, with four at Benzinger and five at Memorial. From March 26-April 1, there will be six eggs hidden, with three at each park. The final week, April 2-8, will feature seven eggs hidden, with four at Benzinger Park and three at Memorial Park.

“Eggs will be on corrugated plastic sheets that are weatherproof,” Schneider said.

Aside from revealing how many eggs will be hidden at each park, no other clues will be given.

“We want families to take their time to hunt throughout the park and look for the eggs,” Schneider said.

Schneider also noted that the entire park at both Benzinger and Memorial will be fair game.

“It will definitely be a hunt,” Schneider said.

Park goers are asked not to move or remove the eggs if they are located.

“We will be doing our best to ensure they re

main in the same place for the week,” Schneider said.

Once all of the eggs are located and the riddle for the week solved, participants will be able to enter their guess for the solution for the riddle via a QR code.

“The only thing they need to submit is the answer to the riddle,” Schneider said. “However, in order to answer the riddle, they will need to organize the words of the riddle to form it.”

Winners will be drawn at random from the correct entries. Each week's prize will be family friendly, Schneider added.

“Prizes will be an Easter-themed basket filled with games, candy, etc. good for the whole family,” Schneider said.

Schneider also expressed her gratitude to the sponsors for The Great Self-Guided Egg Hunt, which include Keystone Audiology & Hearing Aids Inc., Penn Pallet, and the Boys and Girls Club of St. Marys.
