Bunny Hop 5K Celebration Event set for April 8

The annual Bunny Hop 5K will once again be held on the Saturday of Easter weekend this year, and while the route and cause remain the same, there will be some changes for this year’s event, according to co-founders Carly Frank and Taylor Grimm, who started the Bunny Hop 5K in memory of their mother, Becky Frank.

The focus of the Bunny Hop remains on raising awareness about brain aneurysms, but this year proceeds from the event will stay local and benefit an area family or families who have been impacted by brain aneurysms instead of going to a national organization outside of the area.

“We will attempt to bless hopefully more than one family,” Frank and Grimm said. “The only requirement would be that they have been impacted by brain aneurysms. This donation to the family/families will help them hopefully with financial relief or ability to go and visit their loved ones who may be hospitalized.”

Also changing this year is the cost. Instead of a set registration fee to participate, individuals are asked to simply give what they can.

A third change will be the format of the event. In past years, the run and walk were held separately. This year, they will be combined for one event that will get underway following the Kids’ Fun Run, which begins at 10 a.m.

“We wanted it to be a more relaxed year without the time constraints,” Frank and Grimm said regarding the decision to hold the walk and run together.

The Kids’ Fun Run typically lasts around 15 minutes, but participants are asked to be at Benzinger Park by 10 a.m. The Bunny Hop 5K will follow the same route as in past years, beginning and ending on the Vine Road side of Benzinger Park.

For those interested in an event T-shirt, information is available on the Bunny Hop 5K Celebration Event Facebook page. Orders for shirts are due by

March 23.

However, even if someone does not purchase a shirt for this year’s 5K, all participants are asked to wear their favorite shirt from a past Bunny Hop, if they have one.

“We thought it would be a great year to reflect on all years past as we are now giving back to the community that has given and supported us for so many years,” Frank and Grimm said.

Frank and Grimm added that they are extremely appreciative of all of the support that the Bunny Hop 5K has received over the years.

“We hope that everybody comes and joins us this year to remember all the past years of this event by wearing their T-shirts and spreading awareness and support to those impacted by brain aneurysms,” Frank and Grimm said.
