Local swimmers compete at PIAA 2A Swimming and Diving Championsh­ips

The PIAA 2A Swimming and Diving Championsh­ips were held on Wednesday and Thursday, with one individual swimmer and two relay teams in action at Bucknell University for the St. Marys Aera Lady Dutch.

St. Marys did not make the finals for either of their events on Wednesday.

In the prelims for the girls’ 100 yard butterfly, Sarah Krise turned in the 32nd best time out of 32 swimmers, finishing in 1:04.52.

Bedford Area High

School junior Leah Shackley had the best time in the prelims, finishing in 52.40 seconds. Shackley ended up posting an even better time in the finals, winning the 2A girls’ state title in the event in a time of 51.93 seconds. South Park High School’s Katie Jackovic was the runner-up in 55.51 seconds, and Freeport High School’s Kira Schrecongo­st was third in 56.16 seconds.

The Lady Dutch team of Gabby Pistner, Sophia Condon, Allision Geci, and Krise had the 19th best time in the prelims for the girls’ 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:44.07.

The Clearfield team of Danna Bender, Beth Strule, Jaylin Wood, and Danielle Cline was one spot back in 20th in a time of 1:44.50.

Mt. Pleasant High School had the top time of 1:36.20 in the prelims and also bettered that in the finals, winning the state title in the event in a time of 1:35.88. Cathedral Prep was second in a time of 1:39.11, and Northgate High School was third in 1:39.35.

In Thursday’s preliminar­ies for the girls’ 400 freestyle relay, St. Marys posted the 29th best time, finishing in 3:52.60. Clearfield was two spots better, posting the 27th best time of 3:51.85.

Mt. Pleasant High School had the top time in the prelims of 3:34.77. Mt. Pleasant won the state title in the event in a time of 3:31.57 in the finals. Northgate High School was the runner-up in 3:34.21, and Wyoming Seminary was third in 3:37.14.

Mt. Pleasant High School also ran away with the 2A girls’ team title, finishing with 218.50 points. Wyoming Seminary was the runner-up with 118 points, and Cathedral Prep was third with 116 points.
