The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen played host to the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals on Monday evening in a Senior Night matchup under the lights at Berwind Park. The Dutchmen ended up being held to just three hits in the game as the Cardinals rolled to an 8-0 shutout.

Vinnie Lenze had a pair of hits for the Dutchmen, including a double for their lone extra-base hit. Tysen Beimel recorded the team’s other hit.

Aiden Snowberger went the distance on the mound for the defending state champs, giving up three hits while striking out 13.

Snowberger also had a triple and a double for the Cardinals, while Carter Himes also had a double.

Brothers Charlie and Cameron Coudriet pitched for St. Marys. Charlie started the game and worked the first six innings, giving up seven hits and walking two while striking out two. Cameron took over for the final inning, giving up two hits, walking two, and striking out one.

DCC wasted no time loading the bases in the top of the opening inning. Snowberger hit a leadoff double, Carter Hickman reached on an error, and Brayden Fox walked. A single by Kaden Brezenski scored Snowberger and kept the bases loaded, and then Hickman scored as Blake Pisarcik reached on an error. Fox also went on to score. Himes drew a walk, reloading the bases, but a flyout and a lineout brought St. Marys up to bat for the first time.

Batters for St. Marys went down in order in the home half of the inning, leaving the score 3-0 in favor of the Cardinals.

DCC added another run in the top of the second as Snowberger hit a leadoff triple and then scored as Hickman reached on an error, making the score 4-0.

Lenze hit a leadoff double in the home half of the inning to give the Dutchmen their first base runner of the game, but the next three batters went down in order, leaving him stranded.

Himes reached on an error to lead off the top of the third and then scored on a oneout groundout by Matt Pyne, increasing DCC’s lead to 5-0.

Beimel singled to right with one out in the bottom of the inning but was left stranded.

With one out in the top of the fourth, Fox singled but was erased at second as Brezenski grounded into a fielder’s choice. Brezenski advanced to second on an error on the play and then scored as Pisarcik reached on an error to put the Cardinals up 6-0.

Following a one-out single by Lenze in the bottom of the inning, batters for both teams went down in order until the top of the seventh.

Andrew Green drew a leadoff walk for the Cardinals, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored on a one-out double by Himes. A single by Trenton Miller scored Himes, giving DCC an 8-0 lead.

A strikeout and a pair of groundouts sent batters for St. Marys down in order in the bottom of the inning, and DCC took home the 8-0 victory.

Senior members of the St. Marys Area squad, and their parents, were recognized before the start of the game.

The Dutchmen (109) return to action on Thursday when they face crosstown rival ECC in a 6:30 p.m. matchup at Berwind Park.
