St. Marys Community Pool opening for the summer June 2

Community members hoping to enjoy an afternoon at the St. Marys Community Pool over Memorial Day weekend will instead have to wait until week to patronize the facility. This year, the pool will not be opening until Friday, June 2.

City of St. Marys Parks and Recreation Director Danielle Schneider explained that the decision to wait to open the pool will allow more time for maintenance work to be completed while also helping save money on chemical costs.

“Not having the pool open for Memorial Day weekend allows us an extra two weeks to do the much needed maintenance to get it ready for the start of the season,” Schneider said. “It also saves us a lot of money on chemical expenses because we are not opening for three days and then closing for four.”

This summer, pool hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Night swims will be held weekly, weather permitting, each Sunday from 8-10 p.m. beginning June 11.

Also on the schedule for the summer are Aqua Zumba with Lacy on Tuesdays 6-7 p.m. and

Aqua Aerobics with Julie on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m.

According to Schneider, pool goers will see some familiar faces around the facility this summer.

“Traci Meeker returns as aquatics supervisor, and Dawson Krug has been promoted from lifeguard to assistant aquatics supervisor,” Schneider said.

Schneider also reminded community members that it is not too late to purchase a pool membership for the summer season.

“They can be purchased online at stmarys.recdesk.com, or people can pick up a form at the pool or City Hall,” Schneider said. “We do not sell passes at the pool as it is a lengthy process to enroll members to the system at the front desk.”

Pool memberships will remain available for purchase until June 30.

The pool will officially close for the summer at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18. The week of Aug. 14-18, pool hours will be noon to 5 p.m. due to anticipated staff shortages.

Updates on pool closures due to the weather, as well as information on events and activities happening at the facility can be found on the City of St. Marys Parks and Recreation Facebook page.
