Lady Dutch defeated Cameron County on the road Friday evening

The St. Marys Area Lady Dutch traveled to Emporium on Friday evening for a varsityonl­y matchup with the Cameron County Lady Raiders and brought home a 54-37 win.

All of St. Marys Area’s players got to enjoy some valuable minutes in the matchup. Molly Hanslovan led all scorers with 18 points in the game for the Lady Dutch. Jayssa Snelick and Sophia Surra were next in scoring with nine points each.

Elsie Bresslin led Cameron County with 15 points.

Hanslovan set the tone with a quick three to put the Lady Dutch on the board, and then following Bresslin’s first bucket of the night, St. Marys went on a 14-point run to go up 17-2. Alexa Schneider opened the run with a three, Hanslovan and Snelick each made a bucket, Schneider hit another three, and then Snelick and Hanslovan closed out the run with another two points each.

Clara Clark scored two points for the Lady Raiders, and then the teams traded threes to end the quarter, with Surra scoring for St. Marys and Navaeh Spaeth putting in a shot before the buzzer for Cameron County.

The opening quarter ended with St. Marys Area leading 20-7.

Hanslovan scored the first four points of the second quarter, first making a pair of foul shots and then a field goal. A pair of Cameron County buckets bookended a three by Taylor Gornati for the Lady Dutch, and then St. Marys scored their final five points of the half on another pair of foul shots by Hanslovan and a three by Karli Frantz to make the score 32-11.

The Lady Raiders ended the half with a six-point run to make St. Marys Area’s lead 32-17 at the break.

As was the case in the first half, Hanslovan opened the second half scoring with a three and Bresslin responded with a bucket for Cameron County. A nine-point run by the

Lady Dutch followed, with Gornati scoring the first two points, Snelick making a two and then a three, and Hanslovan ending the run with her final two points of the night.

Following a three by Bresslin for the Lady Raiders, Raechel Braun scored the final two points of the frame for St. Marys, making the score 46-22.

Cameron County opened the fourth quarter with a nine-point run to trim St. Marys’ lead to 15 points, 4631. Surra made a three for the first points of the frame for the Lady Dutch, and then she made another following a pair of buckets by the Lady Raiders. The teams traded twos to end the game, with Braun scoring for St. Marys, and the Lady Dutch took home the 54-37 win.
