Lady Crusaders face Williamsbu­rg tonight

The PIAA 1A girls’ basketball playoffs continue tonight with second round action.

Among the teams that will be in action across the state are the D9 champion Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders, who will take on District 6 runner-up Williamsbu­rg at 7 p.m. at West Branch High School in Morrisdale.

ECC enters tonight’s game with a 26-2 record, and Williamsbu­rg is 25-3.

The Lady Crusaders won their first round game against District 7 fifth place team Monessen on Friday by a score of 45-16. Williamsbu­rg took on District 7 third place team Aquinas Academy in the first round on Saturday, winning 60-44.

The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the quarterfin­als on Saturday against the winner of a second round matchup between District 5 champion Berlin (22-5) and District 7 runnerup St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy (24-2), which is being played tonight at 7 p.m. at Hempfield Area High School in Greensburg.

The Berlin/St. Joseph game is the second in a doublehead­er being played in Greensburg tonight. In the early game,

District 7 champion Union Area (20-5) will take on District 5 runner-up Northern Bedford (17-9) at 5:30 p.m.

Also in the western half of the bracket tonight, District 9 third place team DuBois Central Catholic (1511) will face District 6 champion Bishop Guilfoyle (25-3) at 7 p.m. at PennWest Clarion.

In the eastern half of the bracket, District 3 champion Linville Hill (22-1) will play District 4 third place team Lourdes Regional (17-9) at 6 p.m. at Hamburg High School, District 4 runner-up Meadowbroo­k Christian (222) will play District 3 fourth place team

Greenwood (16-11) at 7 p.m. at Shamokin High School, District 2 champion Mountain View (21-4) will play District 3 third place team Veritas Academy (19-7) at 6 p.m. at Hazleton High School, and District 3 runner-up Mt. Calvary Christian (19-6) will play District 4 champion St. John Neumann (23-4) at 6 p.m. at Central Dauphin East High School.

The winners of tonight’s games will advance to the quarterfin­als on Saturday.

The semifinals will be played on Tuesday, March 19, and the state championsh­ip game will be played at noon on Friday, March 22 at the Giant Center in Hershey.
