ECC track squads take on Brookville, DCC, Franklin

The Elk County Catholic girls’ and boys’ track and field teams travelled to Brookville on Tuesday for a meet that also included squads from DCC and Franklin.

In the girls’ meet, Brookville edged ECC 79-69, while ECC defeated DCC 80-66 and Franklin 97-42.

In the boys’ meet, Brookville cruised to a 128-22 win over ECC, and Franklin defeated ECC 80-60. ECC defeated DCC 91-51.

“After a full week of competitio­n, it was nice to have a warmer day. In general, our athletes took advantage of the opportunit­y to produce some good performanc­es. We are making strides in our approach, in our technique, and in our fitness. The group continues to strive for and work toward improvemen­t. We continue to look forward to the fruits of those efforts,” said ECC head coach WeeJ Fernan.

ECC had several individual event winners in the girls’ meet.

Maddie Lanzel won the 400 meter dash in 62.12 seconds.

Sophia Bille won the 800 meter run in 2:35.05.

Grace Neubert won the 1600 meter run in 5:35.34.

The Lady Crusader team of Sophia Bille, Grace Neubert, Sami Straub, and Andrea Baron also won both the 4x400 meter relay and 4x800 meter relay. ECC had a winning time of 4:28.85 in the 4x400 and a winning time of 10:48.43 in the 4x800.

Tori Newton won all three of the girls’ throwing events. Newton had a winning throw of 32’4” in shot put, 98’2” in discus, and 125’1” in javelin.

In the boys’ meet, ECC had one individual event winner and one relay winner.

Frankie Smith won the 400 meter dash in a time of 54.76 seconds.

The Crusader team of Jacob Wasko, Bobby Urmann, Deacon Hendrickso­n, and Luke Songer won the 4x800 meter relay in 9:34.12.

The ECC squads will make a return trip to Brookville on Saturday for the Brookville Invitation­al.
