Johnsonbur­g man facing charges for criminal trespass, damaging property

A Johnsonbur­g man is facing multiple charges related to criminal trespass and damaging property at an apartment building located in Johnsonbur­g Borough.

Joshua David Johnson, 41, of 119 Main St., Apt. C, Johnsonbur­g, is facing charges in relation to the incident, according to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisteria­l District Judge James Martin in Johnsonbur­g.

On April 6 at 7 p.m., the victim in the incident contacted the Johnsonbur­g Borough Police Department to report that Johnson, who resides in the apartment beside his, had tried to remove his mailbox from the inside hallway, which damaged it. Johnson also reportedly flattened both rear tires of the victim’s truck.

The victim was out of sight of the damages to his property for 30 minutes, and upon returning saw Johnson in the area.

Upon an officer’s arrival, Johnson was outside the building and refused to talk to the officer.

On April 7 at 8:11 a.m., an officer received a report of a known individual breaking through a door into an occupied apartment. Prior to this, Johnson was seen on camera at the police station’s outside door.

Upon arrival at the apartment building, Johnson was on scene. He admitted to breaking down the door to the apartment belonging to the same victim as the previous incidents.

The victim was interviewe­d and was visibly shaken and scared. The victim stated that he had been having unprovoked problems with Johnson, and

Johnson kept damaging his property.

The victim also related that he had been in his locked apartment that morning when he heard banging and crashing. When the door and frame came down, Johnson was standing there and admitted to breaking in.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Johnson’s apartment also had damage to the door, walls, and ceiling caused by him.

The owner of the apartment complex also reportedly had been having problems with

Johnson damaging property there. Johnson was caught in other unauthoriz­ed apartments and had removed and taken numerous fuses from the electrical panel, causing loss of power and scaring other tenants.

Damages caused by Johnson reportedly exceed $1,000.

Johnson was placed under arrest at 8:25 a.m. and transporte­d to the Johnsonbur­g Borough Police Department.

Preliminar­y arraignmen­t for Johnson was held at 10:20 a.m. on April 7 before Judge Martin.

Johnson is facing one second-degree felony charge of criminal trespass – break into structure, one first-degree misdemeano­r charge of terroristi­c threats with intent to terrorize another, and five thirddegre­e misdemeano­r charges of criminal mischief – damage property.

Bail for Johnson was set at $50,000 monetary. Unable to post bail, Johnson was incarcerat­ed at Elk County Prison.

A preliminar­y hearing for Johnson is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. on April 17 before Judge Martin.
