ECC’s Grace Neubert to continue running career at Saint Vincent
Elk County Catholic High School senior Grace Neubert recently signed her letter of intent to continue her running career at Saint Vincent College while pursuing a degree in chemical engineering.
Neubert plans to be a member of both the cross country and track and field teams at Saint Vincent.
“I really liked the small community,” Neubert said regarding what drew her to Saint Vincent. “The coaches were very nice. They just recently got accredited for their engineering program, so it all fell together well.”
Neubert got her start running when she joined the track and field team in seventh grade.
“I joined distance in track, and then I decided to join cross country in the fall of eighth grade, and I've been running ever since,” Neubert said.
Neubert cited the challenge of distance running as being what appealed to her when she got her start in the sport.
“We were picking events, and I wanted the challenge of the 3200, and I tried it, and I ended up liking it,” Neubert said.
It was after her sophomore year of high school that Neubert started thinking about continuing to run at the college level.
“It was after my sophomore year that things started picking up for me and I really started falling in love with running,” Neubert said. “I knew then that I wanted to keep going and see where I could get in college.”
As for her intended major, Neubert took AP Chemistry her junior year of high school and ended up really enjoying the class.
“I knew I wanted to do something in math, but those two just fit really well together under chemical engineering,” Neubert said.
Grace is the daughter of Dan and Diane Neubert of St. Marys.
Neubert expressed her appreciation to her parents and coaches for all of their support and encouragement.
