Lady Dutch use “Mo”-mentum to make quick work of Bradford

- By Becky Polaski Staff Writer

A pair of home runs and a walk-off groundout by Molly “Mo” Hanslovan drove in five runs and helped the St. Marys Area Lady Dutch softball team make quick work of the visiting Bradford Lady Owls on Tuesday afternoon. Playing on their home field at St. Marys Area High School, the Lady Dutch scored four runs in the bottom of the first, six in the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth for a 15-0 four-inning win.

Giuliana Muccio also hit a home run in the contest.

Avery Eckels tossed a one-hitter for St. Marys, striking out eight.

Daisy Greene started in the circle for Bradford and worked the first two innings, giving up six hits, walking two, and striking out one. Kalie Dixon took over for the final one and one third innings, giving up nine hits and walking two.

After a strikeout and a pair of groundouts sent Bradford’s batters down in order in the top of the first, the Lady Dutch quickly got to work putting runs on the board. Addison Beimel drew a leadoff walk and stole both second and third with Hanslovan at bat. Hanslovan then connected with a pitch, sending the ball over the left field fence to give the Lady Dutch a 2-0 lead.

A single by Gianna Surra and a double by Kaylen Eozzo gave St. Marys another pair of base runners. A groundout by Eckels scored Surra and moved Eozzo to third, and then Eozzo scored on a double by Kelsie Fledderman. Muccio joined Fledderman on base after being hit by a pitch, but the inning would end with the Lady Dutch unable to score any additional runs.

Batters for Bradford went down in order again in the top of the second. With one out in the bottom of the inning, Beimel singled.

Beimel went on to score on a wild pitch with Gianna Surra at bat. Surra hit a twoout single to left, stole second, and scored on a hit to center by Eozzo. Eckels walked, with Sidney Reider joining Eozzo on base as a courtesy runner. Fledderman followed that up with a single

and advanced to second on an error by the catcher, with both Eozzo and Reider scoring on the play. Muccio then homered to left to make the score 10-0.

Zoe Romanic singled, but a groundout left her stranded.

Eckels struck out the side in the top of the third.

Beimel walked to lead off the bottom of the inning and advanced to second

on a wild pitch with Hanslovan at bat. Hanslovan once again connected with a pitch for a home run to left, making the score 12-0.

Following a groundout, Eozzo tripled and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Eckels, increasing St. Marys’ lead to 13-0.

Bradford’s lone hit of the game came with two outs in the top of the fourth when Dixon

singled to center. A groundout left Dixon stranded.

A single by Muccio and a walk issued to Romanic gave the Lady Dutch a pair of base runners to start off the bottom of the inning. Sophia Surra singled to left, scoring Muccio, and then a single by Beimel loaded the bases. A groundout by Hanslovan scored Romanic to end the game, with

the Lady Dutch recording the 15-0 fourinning win.

St. Marys Area is scheduled to be back in action today on the road against Clearfield.
