Anthony A. “Tony” Young, 93, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of Penn Road, St. Marys, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 with his family by his side following a brief illness.

He was born on February 20, 1931, a son of the late Nicholas and Matilda Smithbauer Young.

On May 26, 1962, in Sacred Heart Church, he married Jane Rigard, who survives. Together they were blessed with nearly 62 years of marriage.

Tony was a lifelong resident of the area and graduate of Central High School, class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, and then went on to earn an Associate's Degree from Penn State DuBois in Drafting and Design Technology. He retired from Keystone Powdered Metal Company after more than 36 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the St. Marys Sportsmen's Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Sacred Heart Church, where he also very active as a volunteer over the years.

One of Tony's favorite pastimes was fishing, he always loved spending a day by the water casting a line. He also enjoyed puzzles, watching Penn State football, and was also an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchild­ren, never missing one of their activities over the years and always being there to cheer them on with a smile on his face.

In addition to his beloved wife of more than 61 years, Jane Rigard Young, he is survived by three children; Amy Reichard and her husband Irvin of St. Marys, Craig Young of Valdosta, GA, and Kevin Young and his wife Leslie of Danville, PA, by three grandchild­ren; Jeremiah (Becky Maple) Bucher, Scott Reichard, and Natalie Reichard, and by three great-grandchild­ren; Chloe, Lexie, and Brayden. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers; Servanus Young, Joseph Young, Edward Young, Alfred Young, Richard Young, James Young, and by four sisters; Anna Cheatle, Barbara Hanes, Rita Uhl, and Mary Bauer. He was the last member of his immediate family.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Anthony A. Young will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Michael Gabler, OSB, as Celebrant.

Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

There will be no public visitation.

Memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, Christian Food Bank, or to the Elk County Catholic School System.
