Crusader tennis team fell to Warren Friday

On Friday, the Elk County Catholic boys’ tennis team competed against the Warren Dragons in a double match. The first was a four singles/three double matches format and the second match a three singles match/ two doubles matches format. The second match was a rain makeup away match earlier this week. The Warren Dragons were from District 10. Warren swept both matches.

“There were many very good rallies in both matches,” said ECC head coach Michael

Jeselnick. “Elk County Catholic, who is a very young team, saw some very good shot making from freshmen Merrill Leckey, Simon Dornisch, and Julian Lanzel. These three played well against the Warren junior and senior doubles tennis teams. I’m very pleased with these first year tennis players.”

Frank Messineo played well in his first singles match against Warren’s Tobiah Reinard 3-6, 3-6. Noah Cherry played very well in a very close first set 7-6 (7-4), 3-6 (second set) and a third set tiebreak (7-10) match against Warren’s Jack Lynds.

“I think Noah Cherry has come a long way with his shot making and all around tennis game since preseason,” Jeselnnick said.

All the singles matches that Douglas MacDonald, Bradyn Pistner, and William MacDonald played in Friday’s matches were filled with many long rallies and close games than the individual set scores indicated.

“Overall I think today’s tennis matches will prepare the team for the upcoming district tennis tournaments,” Jeselnick said.

Doubles

1. Adam Strandburg and Ben Scott (W) defeated Douglas MacDonald and Bradyn Pistner (EC), 8-0.

2. Brody Alexander and Elliott Striker (W) defeated Noah Cherry and Frank Messineo (EC), 8-4.

3. Collin Ellis and Owen B. (W) defeated Julian Lanzel and William MacDonald (EC), 8-4.
