Dutch junior high team finishes 16th in Altoona

Members of the St. Marys Area junior high girls’ and boys’ track and field teams were in action at the Altoona Middle School Championship at Mansion Park in Altoona on Saturday. While the Lady Dutch were not among the 37 girls’ teams that scored points in the meet, the Flying Dutchmen finished in 16th place out of 34 boys’ teams.

State College won the boys’ team title with 77 points. The Dutchmen were 16th with 15 points.

Altoona won the girls’ team title with 71.50 points.

Finishes by members of the Flying Dutchmen in the track events were as follows:

Gavin Henry finished fifth in the boys’ 300 meter hurdles in 46.59 seconds.

Chase VanAlstine finished seventh in the boys’ 100 meter dash in 12.53 seconds and seventh in the boys’ 200 meter dash in 25.64 seconds.

Carter Dynda finished eighth in the boys’ 1600 meter run in 5:05.91 and ninth in the boys’ 800 meter run in 2:21.44.

Max Jovenitti finished 15th in the boys’ 1600 meter run in 5:22.32 and 33rd in the boys’ 800 meter run in 2:32.49.

Jonathan Farabaugh finished 30th in the boys’ 300 meter hurdles in 52.26 seconds.

Jacob Sloppy finished 35th in the boys’ 400 meter dash in 63.14 seconds.

Ryan Penn finished 36th in the boys’ 3200 meter run in 13:12.01.

The Dutch 4x400 meter relay team finished fifth in 4:01.60.

Finishes by members of the Flying Dutchmen in the field events were as follows:

Dutch teammates Gavin Henry and Chase VanAlstine tied for sixth in the boys’ high jump after clearing 5’.

Jackson Wehler finished 13th in the boys’ triple jump with a jump of 33’4.5”.

Christian Sines tied for 25th in the boys’ long jump with a jump of 15’0.5”.

Nico Assalone tied for 32nd in the boys’ discus with a throw of 80’10” and finished 38th in the boys’ javelin with a throw of 90’1”.

Finishes by members of the Lady Dutch in the track events were as follows:

Mia Azzato finished 19th in the girls’ 800 meter run in 2:47.59 and 23rd in the girls’ 1600 meter run in 6:02.12.

Keira Assalone finished 24th in the girls’ 800 meter run in 2:49.25 and 30th in the girls’ 1600 meter run in 6:09.95.

The Lady Dutch 4x400 meter relay team finished 11th in 4:49.40.

Finishes by members of the Lady Dutch in the field events were as follows:

Mavis Caskey tied for 19th in the girls’ high jump after clearing 4’2”.
