Longhorn freshman Allen gone
Texas freshman forward Jarrett Allen decided to hire an agent and will enter the NBA draft, the school announced.
AUSTIN — Freshman power forward Jarrett Allen has decided to hire an agent and will enter the NBA draft, the school announced Tuesday.
While not unexpected given Allen’s profile as a top recruit and development during the season, it’s still a blow after the Longhorns lost 22 games in Shaka Smart’s second season at UT. Freshman guard Andrew Jones also might not return; he has declared for the draft but is not yet hiring an agent.
The 6-11 Allen recorded 12 double-doubles last season. He led Texas in rebounds (8.4 per game), blocked shots (51) and minutes played (32.1 mpg), and was second in scoring (13.4 ppg) while shooting 56.6 percent from the field.
Texas returns rising 6-10 sophomore-to-be James Banks, and is in the final four for Mo Bamba, a 6-11 power forward from Westtown (N.Y.) School. Dylan Osetkowski, a 6-9 transfer from Tulane who averaged 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in 2015-16, will be eligible this coming season.
