Would texting law even help?
I’m torn regarding the proposed new traffic law that would prohibit texting while driving.
In the past, when I would see someone weaving in lanes, crossing over the lines, sometimes driving dangerously slower than the flow of traffic, I would think the driver was drunk. Now, it’s reasonable to assume the distracted driver is texting.
There is that part of me that begs for yet another strict law to be passed that addresses a serious problem. On the other other hand, I wonder, what good would it do? The police are often useless in controlling speeders, tailgaters, reckless drivers and out-of-control motorcyclists.
If police would enforce existing traffic laws better, there might be less of a need to pass another meaningless law. Stephen Matthews, Bedford
