Re: “Grief shouldn’t drive us — Punish reckless drivers in place of ban on texting while driving,” by Mark Davis, April 5 Viewpoints.
Davis conveniently ignores a key point by focusing only on punishing offenders after they’ve caused a crash. If an officer observes someone driving down the street breaking no laws except for drinking a beer, she can pull him over. The same should be true for someone texting while driving.
Deter those who “willfully endanger fellow drivers” all the time, not just after it’s too late. John Smith, North Dallas
