Both drivers in­jured when Jeep col­lides with 18-wheeler

In­ter­state 35E was closed early Fri­day after an 18-wheeler car­ry­ing ba­nanas flipped on its side.

The clo­sure was at Val­ley View Lane, and the en­tire high­way was shut down about 2:30 a.m. as drivers ap­proached I-635/LBJ Free­way.

A Jeep on the west­bound ramp from I-635 to north­bound I-35E lost con­trol and col­lided with the 18-wheeler, caus­ing it to over­turn, po­lice said. Both drivers were in­jured.

The trac­tor-trailer was re­port­edly car­ry­ing 36,000 pounds of ba­nanas.

The in­ter­change re­opened sev­eral hours later, but not be­fore caus­ing a headache for morn­ing com­muters.

Haz­ardous ma­te­ri­als crews, Dal­las County sher­iff ’s deputies and Dal­las Fir­eres­cue were at the scene.
