Wizards rally comes up short; Harden misfires away as Rockets fall

The Dallas Morning News - - Sports Day -

WASHINGTON — Serge Ibaka hit a 3pointer with 15 seconds left in the second overtime, and the Toronto Raptors survived to earn their fifth straight win, 140138 over the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

The Raptors blew a 23point lead but outlasted the stubborn Wizards, who never led until early in the second extra period.

Kawhi Leonard had 41 points and 11 rebounds to pace Toronto, which led 5128 with four minutes to play in the second quarter and 9679 with 57 seconds to play in the third.

Bradley Beal had his second tripledouble of the season, collecting season highs of 43 points and 15 assists along with 10 rebounds. His 3pointer with 20.4 seconds left in regulation tied it at 124 to force overtime. His jumper with 6.8 seconds to play in the first overtime tied it at 131.

Magic 116, Rockets 109: In Orlando, Fla., Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon each scored 22 points, Evan Fournier had 17 and the Magic rallied past the injurydepleted Rockets.

Houston’s James Harden scored 38 points to push his run of 30point games to 16, but at a high price. The Rockets star was just 1 for 17 on 3pointers. He had 12 assists and nine rebounds.

Austin Rivers scored 25 points and Clint Capela 17 points and 10 rebounds for Houston, which lost for only the fourth time in its last 17 games.

Nuggets 116, Trail Blazers 113: In Denver, Nikola Jokic scored a seasonhigh 40 points, Jamal Murray fought through a bloody lip to add 24 and the Nuggets rebounded from a loss at Phoenix on Saturday night for their 12th home win in a row.

Jokic finished a point off his career high. He added 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Cavaliers 101, Lakers 95: In Los Angeles, Cedi Osman scored 20 points, Collin Sexton added 17 and Cleveland ended a 12game losing streak.

Tristan Thompson had 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Alec Burks had 17 points and 13 rebounds as the shorthanded Cavaliers split the twogame season series by forcing the Lakers into a halfcourt game.

76ers 108, Knicks 105: In New York, Ben Simmons fell an assist short of a tripledouble with 20 points and 22 rebounds, Joel Embiid scored 26 points and the 76ers escaped with the victory after building a 24point firsthalf lead.

New York’s Emmanuel Mudiay missed a 3pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime.

Bucks 133, Hawks 114: Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 33 points, Eric Bledsoe added 24 points and 10 assists, and the Bucks won in the return of former Hawk Mike Budenholzer to Atlanta.

Khris Middleton had 17 points and 11 rebounds to help the Bucks improve to 3012, second best in the NBA. Coming off a loss at Washington that Antetokounmpo missed with injuries, Milwaukee is 120 following a defeat and remained the league’s only team not to drop consecutive games.
