The premiere of a new work commission­ed from New York choreograp­her Nijawwon Matthews, From Within, described as “a transforma­tive experience from the trauma of betrayal to self-healing,” highlights Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s Director’s Choice shows at the Wyly Theatre. The program also includes the ballet Bounce by Ballet Austin artistic director Stephen Mills and Furtheranc­e from former Alvin Ailey dancer Kirven Douthit-boyd. Among the dancers are Claude Alexander III and Sean J. Smith, celebratin­g their 10th season with the company.

In Plano, Eyakkam Dance Company draws on the Indian classical form of

Bharatanat­yam with production numbers from the last 80 years of Tamil cinema in Konjum Salangai 2.0. The re-created song-and-dance sequences, complete with costumes inspired by the originals, feature 25 performers, including guest artists from Cleveland and Chicago.
