“It just evolved from there,” de Smet said. “It’s never stopped.”

In re­cent years, Third Thurs­day has sought to draw more peo­ple from around the state.

For in­stance, this year, or­ga­niz­ers asked high school singers from Griswold to per­for­mon one of the stages.

But de Smet said the fes­ti­val cer­tainly has a pull with the lo­cals.

“I know peo­ple who won’t go on va­ca­tion dur­ing a Third Thurs­day week,” she said.

The fes­ti­val runs from 6-9 p.m. and park­ing is free. Pur­chase of a $5 but­ton nets vis­i­tors dis­counts year-round at par­tic­i­pat­ing down­town mer­chants.

The en­ter­tain­ment lineup for June 21 fea­tures The Brazil­ian Project, Klez­men­schen, the Long River Band, DJ Glid­den, A Mir­ror’s Em­brace, Mes­tizo Manta and FUSE. Food ven­dors will be of­fer­ing French fries, onion rings, cus­tom sausage and smoked prod­ucts, rice pi­geon peas, oven roasted pulled pork, pork tacos with salsa and onions, ground beef em­panadas, gourmet ket­tle korn, Ital­ian Ice, 10” pret­zel twists, fresh squeezed lemon­ade, raw or­ganic smooth­ies, pizza, grinders, lasagna, chicken tikka masala, mat­tar pa­neer, and vegetable samosa.
