On the pond

-

Sister property Weekapaug Inn was built in 1899 and has offered the serenity of nature’s beauty for decades. Away from the bustle of town, the beautiful shoreline and Quonochontaug Pond provide many opportunities for exploration. For those with more social desires, Weekapaug Inn has a great lineup of activities.

One new special event for 2016 is the Weekly Pig Roast & S’mores on Monday nights. From June 27 to September 5, enjoy a family style three-course feast at the Restaurant and Amphitheater Lawn. 5:30 to 8 p.m. for dinner, then yummy s’mores by the fire pit from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Cost, plus tax and gratuity, is $85 per adult; $40 for ages 4-12, with children 3 and younger admitted free.

A tradition since 1938, the Thursday Night Clam Bake happens on the lawn under the stars from mid-June through mid-August. There’s dinner from 5:30 to 8 p.m., then yummy s’mores by the fire pit from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Cost, plus tax and gratuity, is $85 per adult and $40 for ages 4-12; with children 3 and younger admitted free.

On September 3, Quonochontaug Pond lights up with phosphorescent plankton called ctenophores. Join the resident naturalist on a boat paddle over the pond to watch the creatures glow when the water is disturbed. The paddle runs from 8 to 9:30 p.m.; cost is $20/hotel guest, $40/non-guest (plus tax).

These events are only the tip of the iceberg. A complete calendar and more information is available on www.oceanhouseevents.com and www.weekapauginn.com, and by phone.
