New London— Amelia “Millie” McLaughlin, 96, of New London, entered eternal life on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, in the comfort of her home.

She was born Aug. 17, 1917, in New York City, and was united in marriage to John F. McLaughlin on Sept. 2, 1939 in New London. Mr. McLaughlin died April 27, 1990.

Millie worked as a school lunch lady at Harbor School in New London for 30 years, retiring in 2007. She was a communican­t of St. Joseph Parish in New London. She was very independen­t, driving herself to local stores and shops, but her favorite drive was to the Mohegan Sun Casino in Montville. Her special phrase to family and friends was “You have to make your own good time.”

She is survived by two sons, Michael McLaughlin and partner, Julie Kraemer, of New London, and Gary and Janice McLaughlin of Westerly; five grandchild­ren, Kevin McLaughlin, Kristine Roarke, and Cassidy, Madison and Kelly McLaughlin; and four great-grandchild­ren, Tommy, Samantha and Nicholas Roarke and Quentin McLaughlin.

She was predecease­d by a granddaugh­ter, Kolby McLaughlin; and her brother, Walt Kowalczyk.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Impellitte­riMalia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 9 a.m. Saturday, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery.
