Griswold— Trevor William Marttila, 20, of Griswold, died unexpected­ly on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.

He was born Oct. 4, 1992, in Norwich, a son to William and Jean Marttila. Trevor was a 2010 graduate of Norwich Technical Vocational High School and served his country within the U.S. Marine Corps. He presently worked as an installer for Renewable Energy Products.

Trevor was a die-hard Steelers and Red Sox fan like his father. He enjoyed playing sports, riding his four-wheeler and bike, and hanging out with his family and friends. Trevor had a fun-loving personalit­y and infectious smile that will be deeply missed by all.

In addition to his parents, Trevor is survived by his siblings, Kristi Brenek, Amanda Brenek and Jason Brenek; and his niece, Savannah Caulfield. He is also survived by his maternal grandparen­ts, Norman and Norma Gileau; and his paternal grandparen­ts, Paul and Carol Marttila; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Trevor was to be the best man at Jason’s wedding in November and was looking forward to welcoming Bethanie McGlynn as his new sister-in-law.

Trevor was planning a future with his girlfriend Rachel Sharp, and recently asked her parents Jeff and Carol Sharp for permission to marry her. Together with her two brothers they were looking forward to making him part of their family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Norwich Worship Center, 165 Lawler Lane, Norwich. The funeral will assemble at church. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the GagnePiech­owski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City. Burial will be private and at the convenienc­e of his family.

Trevor was proud of his service in the military and would appreciate benefiting veterans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Trevor’s memory to VFW Post 10004, 263 Taylor Hill Road, Griswold, CT 06351 or American Legion Post 15, 7 South Main St., Jewett City, CT 06351.
