After winning protest, Montville rallies to win game, too

Waterford — Jordan Zeppieri hit a game-winning two-run single with two outs in the top of the sixth inning as the second-ranked Montville High School baseball team rallied to beat No. 4 Waterford 7-6 Wednesday in the completion of an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Medium Division game.

Montville coach Phil Orbe protested the game April 29 when the umpires refused to let a player re-enter to bat with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth.

Waterford won 5-4, but the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference protest committee unanimousl­y sided with Orbe and ordered the game to be resumed from the point of the protest.

Zeppieri drove in Rohan Parekh and Steve Rogers scored for the In- dians (13-1, 6-1). TT Bowen added an RBI single to push Montville ahead 7-5.

Stan Kesilewski earned the win and Buddy Dewaine got the save.

Tom Pezzolesi doubled in the bottom of the sixth and scored on Seth Hoagland’s single for Waterford (123, 6-2). In other games:

Williams School exploded for six runs in the fourth inning and the Blues went on to defeat St. Thomas More 11-2 in the consolatio­n game of the SENE tournament. Adam Morell scattered six hits over five innings to earn the win for Williams, which finished 5-9, while Jake Parizo was 2- for- 4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Sotiraq Vangjeli and Luke Monteiro drove in two runs each. Guy Shapiro had a double and a two-run single for T-More, which finished 0-11.

Matt Przybysz pitched a twohitter and had two hits and two RBI in Old Lyme’s 7-0 victory over HaleRay in the Shoreline Conference. Ross Golebiewsk­i had four hits and three RBI and Hunter Sheffield and Billy Buscetto each had two hits for Old Lyme (7-7, 7-8).

Boys’ lacrosse

Nic Page had two goals and three assists and Mark Wojcik and Mark Chmielewsk­i added two goals each for East Lyme in a 10- 5 victory over Bacon Academy in the ECC Large Division. Greg Swenson finished with 16 saves in the win for the Vikings (9-3, 6-0).

Girls’ lacrosse

Daria McKenna had three goals and an assist and Michelina Pinto scored four times as Fitch beat Woodstock Academy 12- 10 in the ECC Large Division. Avery Fiftal and Vineela Kanagala each had two goals for Fitch (6-6-1, 3-3) and Jackie Kokomoor had nine saves.

Boys’ golf

Trevor Hutchinson shot a 34 to earn medalist honors and lead Grasso Tech to a 191-225 victory over New London at Pequot Golf Club. Sam Denard added a 50, Jacob Ballman a 52 and Justin Van Dyke a 55 for the Eagles while Jordan Rogers carded a 43 to lead New London (0-9).

Jack Ognisty shot a low-round 40 and Joel Nelson a 43 as Ston- ington downed Wheeler 7-0. Noah Blanchette shot a 44 for Stonington (10-2). Michael Anderson and Max Reck each shot a 49 for Wheeler (46).

Girls’ golf

Katie Strickland shot a 43 to lead Norwich Free Academy to a team score of 222 in a forfeit victory over Bacon Academy. NFA is 6-4.

Sailing

Williams lost its final home match of the season to Choate. The starting skippers were seniors Doug Hamilton and Russ Parker and sophomore Annie Longo. The other skippers in the best- of- five team race were Sophie Bullinger, Max Griswold, Matthew Littlefiel­d, Christine Gelotte and Sarah Wilkinson.
