Wheeler wins again

Montville — Kylie Baker hit a two-run homer with two outs in the first inning and Jenn Paride pitched a three-hitter as Wheeler High School remained unbeaten in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Small Division with a 6-0 softball victory over Montville on Wednesday.

Baker finished 2-for-4 for the Lions ( 10- 2, 7- 0) while Michaela Bergel added a single and double.

Caitlin Perkins, Adrienne Foret and Nicole Dutka had the three singles for Montville (10-5, 6-3). In other games:

St. Bernard remained a game behind Wheeler in the ECC Small Division by defeating Lyman Memorial 11-4. Amy Bouchard allowed only one earned run over six innings to earn the win for the Saints (11-5, 7-1), led offensively by Bouchard, who went 3-for-4 with two singles, a solo home run, three runs scored and an RBI. In addition, Ali Patterson was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, four RBI and three runs, Gretchen Greene was 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI and Margaret Reagan and Sophie Nelson each had two hits, two runs and one RBI.

Griswold clinched at least a share of the ECC Medium Division title with a 9-4 win over Waterford. The Wolverines (14-2, 8-1) can win the title outright by winning at Stonington on Monday. Megan Elphick had a pair of hits for the Lancers (10-5, 7-2).

Emily DeVito tripled, marking the 100th hit of her career and giving Norwich Free Academy a lead in the third inning in a 12-7 victory over Ledyard in the ECC Large. DeVito, Shaina Beatrice, Melissa Castillo and Sophia Formiglio had two hits each for NFA (12-5, 5-4) and Megan Weir got the win in relief and doubled. Savannah Johnson was 3-for-4 for Ledyard (6-10, 3-6).

Brooke Arruda had three hits, including one of Stonington’s four home runs, and the Bears defeated New London 20-2 in a ECC Medium Division game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. Cameron Dreher, Christine McNeil and Emma Miller also homered for Stonington (11-4, 6-2) and Mallory Kane had two hits, three runs and two RBI. Kenya Capers had a hit and scored a run for New London (0-16, 0-8) and Emily Corbeil had a two-run single.

Ali Scott had a triple and an RBI for Old Lyme in a 9-1 loss to Hale-Ray in the Shoreline Conference.
