Storrs— William “Bill” Newsome, 88, of Storrs, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2015.

One of six children, Billwas born on July 2, 1927, to the late John and Lillian (Rankin) Newsome in Providence. He was a U.S. Navy veteranwho served inWorldWar II as an electricia­ns’ mate third class aboard the USS Tortuga. Bill retired after 31 years from CL&P (Willimanti­c and Mystic stations). Bill loved watching the New York Yankees and enjoyed his summers at the lake cabin.

Billwas a devoted and loving husband for over 65 years to his wife, Wanda M. (Homiski) Newsome, who survives him. He is also survived by his four daughters, Shirley Dazy (Mike) Surette ofWilliman­tic, Nancy Bessette of Preston, Cindy (Don) Hartley of Stonington, and Lisa (Jeff) Ward of Storrs; his seven grandchild­ren and seven great-grandchild­ren; many friends, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-lawand sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, Billwas predecease­d by his siblings, Florence “Flo,” Mary “Mae,” Lillian “Dill,” Helen and John, and his only son, William “Billy” Newsome (in 2011).

We’re not saying goodbye, we’re saying good night. We love you!

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Route 195), Willimanti­c. Private burial with military honors will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery inWindham at a later date.
