Mystic— Anita “Ann” Triplett (Cummings) den Tex died peacefully on July 18, 2015, at home with her family.

Shewas born in Baltimore, Md., Oct. 28, 1929, the daughter of Carl Elmore Cummings O.B.E. and Anita (Triplett) Cummings. She grew up in Beacon, N.Y., graduated from Mary A. Burnham School, Northampto­n, Mass., and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology fromHood College in Frederick, Md. She did additional graduatewo­rk at Columbia University, the University of Kentucky and the University of Minnesota in urban planning and industrial sociology.

She met her husband, Karel den Tex, while working at IBM Corp. in Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y., and was married at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Beacon. Karel’s job required them to relocate several times including Germany, Lexington, Ky., and Rochester, Minn. In Lexington, she served on the board of the League ofWomen Voters as well as the board of Lexington Family Services. In Rochester, she was employed by Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, became chairperso­n of the Olmsted County Board of Adjustment, was a member of the County Environmen­tal Quality Committee and eventually worked in Human Services Planning for Olmsted County, Minn.

In 1983 the den Texes moved to Mystic. Ann subsequent­ly served four years as president of the Visiting Nurse Associatio­n of Stonington, then assistant treasurer of the Visiting Nurse Associatio­n of Southeast Connecticu­t. For three years she was board chairman of the Community Foundation of Southeaste­rn Connecticu­t and served for many years on the Investment Committee of the Foundation. She also served as a corporator and was on several committees of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed membership in the Ram Island Yacht Club, The Mystic Garden Club and for over 20 years and countless hourswas aMystic Seaport Pilot and active volunteer at the Mystic Seaport Library.

Her greatest pleasures in lifewere her family, watercolor painting, travel and music, as well as her continuous community involvemen­t.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Adrienne Louise den Tex ofMystic; son, Charles Williams den Tex and grandson, Nicholas, both of Seattle, Wash.

Shewas recently preceded in death by her husband, Karel, and brother, David.

A local memorial service will be held this fall.
